Should Manchester United Take A Transfer Gamble For This Record Breaker?

Manchester United Transfers 2021-22

It seems such an odd thing to say, given how United have had a history of scoring goal after goal against all type of opposition over the years, but they have been having a real problem in front of the goal ever since Fergie retired. Over the past 3 years, we have failed to rope in a proper 20-goal-a-season forward, and although we do have the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and James Wilson in the squad, yet all of them are too young to deliver regularly. Wayne Rooney is already 30 years old, and he seems better off playing the no. 10 role than the no. 9. So with van Persie already being sold, Old Trafford does not have a reliable striker. So is there any solution to the problem? We had chased both Robert Lewandoski and Karim Benzema last summer and they turned out to be fruitless, and it’s unlikely that either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid will change their decision this year.

Enter Jamie Vardy, the 28-year-old Leicester City forward who has been the talk of England all season. His exploits with the Foxes has landed his team in the first position of the league table while he himself leads the scoring charts with 19 league goals. His combination with the Algerian Riyad Mahrez has been breath-taking to say the least, and he also broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record by scoring in 11 consecutive league games this season. So could he be the answer to United’s woes? Let’s analyse.

PROS:

Vardy is fast, determined and a very good finisher. You don’t score 24 goals if you don’t have the killer instinct. It’s not something that he always had in him, 6 years ago the man was plying his trade in Fleetwood town, a non-league team, so it’s obviously something that he has developed. He will chase down a lost cause and he often benefits because of this trait of his, as he catches players dilly-dallying on the ball. He is exactly the kind of player United could do with at the moment, someone who not only provides quality but also the character on the pitch. He could be the perfect replacement for RVP, given how the former Gooner was also 29 years old when he arrived at Old Trafford.

CONS:

A lot of Premier league clubs will also be looking to buy Vardy in the summer, so the competition will be hard and the price tag very high. Even if United do end up getting him, we do not know if he will be good enough for us since it’s not easy being a Manchester United no. 9. Also, he could turn out to be just a one-season wonder, and that would probably be the worst outcome ever.

Final Verdict:

We believe Vardy is good but aren’t very sure of him.

Transfer feasibility: 7/10
