Predicted Manchester United Line-up To Play Against CSKA Moscow: Carrick And Schneiderlin In The Middle

Schweinsteiger

United head to Moscow after a brilliant performance at the weekend. A 3-0 victory vs Everton at Goodison Park, their first there since 2011. United currently sit in second place in Group B after one loss and one win.

Romero and Valencia missed the trip to Everton as they had to travel a lot but should travel up to Moscow as part of the 20 man squad. Wilson will stay behind due to illness as informed by LVG. However, youth product Jesse Lingard looks set to keep his place in the team. Ashley Young is still on the injured list and will not travel along with of course Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair. Normally, there would be a temptation to rest players before the derby, however Van Gaal informed the media that he will not change too much on Wednesday.

Predicted Line-up:

David De Gea- He’s United’s number one without any doubt and there is absolutely no reason to replace him. Has won United matches on his own with his tremendous performances in goal.

Matteo Darmian- Had a decent game against Everton once more. Despite a few poor performances in recent times, Darmian has had a wonderful start to life at Old Trafford. There is no reason to drop him to the bench.

Chris Smalling- Smalling has been United’s defensive rock. He’s saved United many times and was brilliant at the weekend at Everton as well.

Phil Jones- Phil Jones made his first start for United this season at Goodison Park and he was very good. Playing alongside Smalling, the two of them had good understanding and were very solid. He should keep his place.

Marcos Rojo- Marcos Rojo and Blind are the two players available to play at left-back. However, Rojo had a good outing against Everton and it’s always better to play with the same back four.

Michael Carrick- With Schweinsteiger playing at the weekend, it might be better to start Carrick for this one. Carrick, like Bastian, brings a lot of experience and can influence proceedings as United look to play a possession game.

Morgan Schneiderlin- Schneiderlin was very good at the weekend and even got his first goal in a United shirt. He plays well together with Carrick adding an extra layer of protection and he should keep his place.

Juan Mata- Although Mata didn’t have a great game and was replaced at half-time, there isn’t much cause to drop him and he should retain his place in the XI. He’s one of United’s most creative players and always looks to make something happen.

Ander Herrera- Herrera was absolutely terrific at the weekend. A goal, an assist and a very good performance surely ensures him a place in the XI.

Anthony Martial- Although he had a quieter game, he has been exceptional since his arrival. He’s no stranger to playing on the left as that’s where he played for Monaco. Can’t see Memphis replacing him in the XI.

Wayne Rooney- Rooney was much better at the weekend and scored his 187th Premier League goal, moving him to second in the all time list alongside Andy Cole. United will be hoping he can go on a goal scoring run.
