Manchester United Bids For Herrera And Vermaelen Rejected: Will Either Be Joining?

Things aren’t looking good on the transfer front for United and Ed Woodward and there is a double blow in the morning papers which will only frustrate fans further.

Sky Sports have confirmed that Athletic Bilbao have rejected a £29 million bid from Manchester United for their midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Basque club have always played hard ball when big European clubs try and pinch their star players, like Bayern Munich with Javi Martinez and Juventus with Fernando Llorente.

It is believed that the reason the bid wasn’t accepted is that Bilbao want to hold out until July 1st, when Herrera’s buy-out clause increases by £4 million.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said there was nothing wrong with the first bid, just that Bilbao want the buy-out clause paid in full. He also believes Herrera WILL be a United player. (Twitter)

Herrera was not the only transfer bid to be rejected, as the Daily Star reports that United’s initial bid for Arsenal Captain Thomas Vermaelen has been knocked back also.

The Belgian has this week rejected claims of a move to Manchester United, while on international duty at the World Cup, however United’s interest was strong enough to submit a bid.

Vermaelen’s situation is well-known and it is clear despite being club Captain he will continue to be third choice behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

The two situations are almost identical, both players are looking for a move, United are interested, but Arsenal and Bilbao are just waiting for United to cough up some more money.

I think we will be seeing both Vermaelen and Herrera playing at Old Trafford next season.
