Ander Herrera To Be First Of FOUR Signings For Manchester United: How Would They Fit In?

There are set to be big changes to the current playing squad at United, once Louis van Gaal finishes his business with the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Daily Telegraph report that Athletic Bilbao’s midfielder Ander Herrera is to be the first of four signings this summer, which incoming manager van Gaal has sanctioned.

It is reported that the Dutchman wants to replace out-going defensive duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand with Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.

Also in defence Southampton’s Luke Shaw is believed to be on the verge of signing a 100,000 per-week contract and cost around £27 million.

The other two names on the list are Ajax’s Daley Blind and former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong, both of whom work under van Gaal with the Dutch national side.

With the players mentioned it will to be interesting to see where they fit into van Gaal’s fabled 4-3-3 formation, which he traditionally brings with him wherever he goes.

Shaw will obviously battle it out with Patrice Evra for the starting place at left-back and if Mats Hummels were to join he would take up one of the centre-back spots.

As for Daley Blind, he is a more interesting subject of discussion. The Dutchman is more than capable of playing left-back, holding midfielder, left midfield or even centre-back.

Although for me Blind doesn’t have to physical attributes to play centre-back in the Premier League, and if Shaw does join then he will operate as one of the controlling midfielders.

Finally, he could be partnered by his Netherlands teammate Nigel de Jong in midfield, who would bring his pitbull-style of midfield play to Old Trafford.
