Rodgers Must Take Charge To Deal With Suarez’s Cheating Admission

The big news today was about a serial cheat, who has chosen to speak to the media admitting his cheating. Obviously the widespread condemnation of this has created a buzz in the media which in turn sells newspapers and fills column inches.

Of course I am referring to Lance Armstrong who has selected Oprah Winfrey to hear his confession, while the IOC and Cycling Federation seek to rewrite history erasing his results and requesting the return of their medals.

Back in the UK, in an unrelated story that is also filling the back pages of the tabloids, Luis Suarez chose to repeat the embarrassment he heaped on Kenny Dalglish, by admitting he dived to try and get a penalty against Stoke City.

Suarez managed to help get Kenny fired, as his manager sought to claim poor vision and myopia, when the right thing to do was to condemn the actions of his player at Handshakegate.

Eventually, or should I say belatedly, the sense of fair play on this side of the Pond caused John Henry to speak out against his employees actions thus restoring a modicum of decorum to a sad and sorry affair at Anfield.

Kenny subsequently departed, back to the golf course from which he was summoned, his reputation only slightly tarnished by his efforts to relive his glory days.

The latest Suarez media faux pas puts Brendan Rodgers in the same shoes as King Kenny, after the man who’s talent seems to cause short sighted managers to defend the perennial troublemaker, did it yet again.

Rodgers immediately responded, learning from Kenny’s slow actions, but failing to adequately address the matter by saying it would be dealt with behind closed doors. Sorry Brendan but computer says no, it’s now in the public domain, deal with it.

Whereas Kenny saw it, but claimed he didn’t, only to be corrected by the owner, you really can’t claim you didn’t see this Brendan. What are you going to do about it ? Remember, John Henry is watching!

Ethics aside, the player has now admitted to cheating. Lance Armstrong has also admittted to cheating. Different cases but stealing is stealing, cheating is cheating.

What will the FA do? Will they ignore it too?

Will they let Liverpool deal with it with a few jokes in the manager’s office and a couple of packets of crisps?

Maybe some dive training from Tom Daley to improve the deceit?

How about some betting from a Malaysian syndicate on a Liverpool penalty?

What’s acceptable Brendan?

If Suarez is angling for a move in the window away from a mid-table Club to a richer, more successful force, then wouldn’t this be exactly what he would do? First handball after his prior diving, racism issue, biting and generally bad behaviour. Why is it always him? Does he want away?

If Brendan condemns him publicly then here comes the transfer request.

If he doesn’t then he is just a pawn to player power at Anfield and his authority is gone.

So we heard you Brendan. You’re in charge. You know all the facts. So what are you going to do about it ?

We are all watching you, isn’t that what you wanted when you did the TV show?

  1. Don't go on about other people diving when welbeck,Valencia have dived this season also ashley young who always goes swimming! We will deal with Suarez in our way. FA can't charge Suarez anyway. The ref saw it didn't give anything.

  2. So Liverpool fans think a private pat on the back is ok ?

Public guilt, private punishment. What society accepts that ?

  3. Awww go an fuck off… Cantona assault, Ferdinand drugs cheat, giggs sister in law shagger, Keene ends a career intentionally… Etc etc Et fucking cetera

  4. @steve, he been fined, he had a talking to end of matter, I didn't see SAF pulling welbeck up for diving against Wigan? Or Valencia against Chelsea? No guess not, so move on with your life.

  5. Clear case of “he doth protest too much” coming from the divingest, cheatingest team in the premier league. At least our guy is honest! And no, we do not all follow united like little wanker sheep.

  6. Admitting it makes it punishable?! No, it doesn't. Everybody knew he dived like everyone knows Nani dives and Bale dives, and down the years, Ronaldo, Drogba, Pires and even English players like Gerrard, Rooney and Owen. Stop obsessing yourselves with Suarez and anything to do with Liverpool and focus on your own club. I find it amusing that even though we're absolutely no threat to you and we're down in 8th place that you lot still obsess yourselves with our club. Talk about something else, maybe your own club??

  7. Steve- please post a link to where you advocate the same action for Phil Neville , who, like Suarez, hand balled on the line intentionally to save a goal and was sent off, plus did just as ridiculous a dive recently, then admitted it on Sky Sports in an interview afterwards.

Otherwise, put your own house in order. I seem to remember Freguson saying he'll have a quiet word with Young when he kept diving

  8. What society accepts that ????? Manchester united ?? ……. they lie, they cheat, they dive just like the players of any and all the clubs in the premier league .
And only an idiot would claim different. when winning is the only benchmark for teams what can you expect ?.
Its a great shame and i think it needs to be dealt with more harshly than it is . I say as a proud Liverpool fan that players should be punished with a straight red with a two or three match ban for diving, if that means we have matches finishing with nine a side then so be it.
we would eradicate it within half a season, It would be an awful spectacle for the paying spectator but i think it would make for better matches once the dust settles . as i pointed out earlier, its wrong to single out Luis Suarez because players of all the clubs do it, yes even Manchester United!!! take a bow Ashley Young and others, but that seems to have been overlooked by the articles writer which is a great shame

  9. liverpool fans turning what they did wrong onto man united again?? who wouldve thought?? what is wrong with this club?? they racially abuse a player and its the players fault for being black apparantly……..they slag ronaldo off for diving and then play the victims when people do the same to suarez….pathetic childish small minded ignorant fans who behave like women when it comes to self responsibility….i dont have a problem with suarez diving…he isnt the first and wont be the last…its the pious hypocritical behaviour of the liverpool fans…….and the childish “but he does it too sir” attitude….

  10. Tupac-welcome, I wondered what time the United fans got home from work.

I actually see 3 types of Liverpool fans responses here :-1

1- potty mouthed morons- the argument from this group is pointless as they can't string a coherent sentence together and even with spellcheck they can't spell. But I assume they can read.

2- ironic brigade- the just speak about United group, that seem to speak about United a lot. They seem to have forgotten about free speech and freedom of the press

3- the excuses brigade- you summed them up.

It was widely reported today that Suarez will NOT be fined by Liverpool.

My point in the article was that like when SAF came to United, player power rules at Liverpool and Rodgers has no power to stop his limited talent doing what they like because they will walk if he does anything about it.

Liverpool are 24 PST behind the leaders in mid-January, they are closer to relegation. They have no beaten one side in the top half of the table this season and yet they seem to be able to sink to new lows.

Come on Liverpool fans- open your eyes.

  11. i often find myself the target of the usual vitriol from the loveable “scallies” on many public domains ie youtube or internet forums…….and i often find it amazing how you can speak to a thousand liverpool fans and yet its seems youve spoken to the same person a 1000 times…any form of disagreement or even not joining in the liverpool love in incurs either hate filled rage death threats or tear strewn rants about how harshly done by they are….the suarez evra episode typified what they are about..what couldve been ended by an immediate and frank apology and a man to man meeting..ended up with as per them playing the victims when they are the wrong doers…wallowing in self pity and it ended up as a very nasty shameful incident…..it always amazes me how liverpool fans who are by far the most critical and vitriolic fans always when its returned play the victim……they remind me of an extreme feminst..ie “i hate sexism and men”….without the irony ever dawning upon the loveable scallies “who make european nights so special”..im sure that comment by the ITV commentaters every time liverpool play in europe makes you as sick as me..anyone who has sat in the away end wearing a united shirt getting showered with faeces or getting slashed by “passionate liverpool fans” im sure can empathise

  12. @steve, it was kept “in house” Rodgers has said it could be 1,2 or 3 weeks wages….. So carry on with your life and stop writing about Liverpool it's a tad boring. I'm sure you have better things to do. Players do not rule anything… So I don't know where you got that from.

  13. Read the newspapers, Suarez has not been fined:-

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/9808846/Liverpool-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-blasts-Luis-Suarez-after-Uruguayan-admits-to-diving-calling-it-unacceptable.html

I agree with you, Liverpool are boring. However please don't worry about my life, although I do appreciate the thought and it is my birthday next month so don't be afraid to spoil me.

Suarez spoke to the press for one reason alone, he wanted a rift as a basis for a move. That's my hunch, based on the experience of Rooney, Tevez etc. he will get a new improved contract and so set a bad example. But you pay his wages with your tickets and shirt buying so its your money he will be taking home to Torres old pad.

  14. If you say so, I was on about your article, I wasn't worrying about your life either, also Suarez spoke to the press said he didn't cheat against manfields, he was clearing it up but he also admitted he dived which was wrong he learnt his lesson end of matter…. But anyway if it makes you happy writing articles about Suarez go for it. I'm not goner waste my time on a hypocrite fan. Goodbye:-)

  15. I'm sure old onion nose will have had a word in Mr Gill's shell-like and FA disciplinary action will follow in some form or other. Probably an 8 match ban again. While he's there I'm sure he will be advising the level of sanction that should face Allardyce for stating the bleeding obvious. Surely even the most bias UTD fan can see Allardyce has a valid point. Ferguson seems to conveniently forget telling his players to GO DOWN anywhere in and around the box in order to gain advantage…. alla Jap Stam. He also conveniently forgets the constant play acting and ridiculous diving from Nanni , Rooney and Ronaldo to name but a few. And what about the perpetual dangerous foul merchant, Scholes? But that's OK too because he's ” not that kind of player” and ” he simply can't tackle “.

  16. @ andy
typical scouse moron…………big sam wasnt stating the bleeding obvious…if he was he would mention saint stevies diving over the years..however as its illegal to diss liverpool in the media or by anyone in football he never would……the fact is that the media and the murderers always focus on united getting a debatable throw in and yet ignore when liverpool get a decision!! during benitezs reign it was immpossible to finish with ten men against them…..suarez handball anyone?? the fact is big sam like other morons has latched onto a convenient excuse for being inferior…….lets all celebrate by ignoring newcastles penalty at old trafford last year for rios perfect tackle that cost us the league…….

  17. fergie was obsessed with knocking LFC off their f****in perch and it seems none of you manure fans can stand LFC to have a single decent player- you are running scared – a weak LFC almost did you in the second half at OT – and where were your cheating bleats when Vidic clearly headed the ball behind for a corner but your twelfth man gave a goal kick – was that not cheating? And when Scholesy commits another of his horrendous late tackles to prevent an opposition breakaway he is just the laughable redhead who cannot tackle; not a cheating dirty manc! and when keanoh admitted that he wanted to cripple Alfie Haaland that was just roguish irish banter; of course no MUFC player ever cheated.
    When Suarez was hauled down in the penalty area at Norwich the defender not only stayed on without even a yellow card but he then screamed at Suarez and chased after the referee trying to get him sent off for diving; did anyone make a fuss? No! Suarez spoke truthfully to a South American TV reporter;
he outclassed you at Anfield last season and will do so again; your days are numbered; when fergie croaks his bleating last breath and drops off his perch pointing to his watch demanding more time your decline will be rapid and permanent. make the most of this season; there won't be many more glory days to gloat about NtR

  18. Dear LFC for life, I assume by manfields you means Mansfield. That's rather witty by you and (unless you can't spell which I doubt) would make you much funnier than I gave you credit for. Well done boy, that Liverpool humour shines again.

I'm sure you've much more valuable things to do than waste time on me. Good luck with the job search.

  19. Nev- thank you for a wonderful riposte. Where would we be without your wit and logic ?

But if Suarez is your only decent player who just gave an honest interview being to pillar of society that he is, then I must admit I will accept it.

After all that's one decent player more than you had before.

As for knocking us off our perch, I wouldn't hold your breath on that.

  20. Shakur – You need to go into a darkened room and have a good think about your inferiority complex. If you can't see through your purple nosed tinted glasses that manure always get the rub of the green at home then I feel sorry for you. Have you ever been to a game ?? You just keep shouting from your armchair in London, probably. Just because a team doesn't play well on the day doesn't mean they don't deserve a penalty. Of all the sides you should recognise that, surely? Did you say murderers??
    I ALMOST PITY YOU.

  21. @steve you don't know me? I have a job. don't make a fool out of yourself. Your comments are rather insulting to people. Proves you haven't got a decent come back to our comments, so you have to go on people spelling rather poor if you tell me.

  22. @ andy
united get the rub of the green at home as much as all other teams do at home…..it just gets highlighted when united get a decision and ignored when it goes against us…i again refer back to newcastles penalty when rio made a perfectly good tackle…that game cost us it finished 1-1 and cost us 2 points….i live in lower broughton not london…….and we have always had the biggest support even before 93 which wound you guys up…..the fact is you guys play the victim…there was a glut of goals not given that crossed the line a few years ago and yet the only one that ever gets mentioned is the roy carroll one…..saint stevie is as big of a diver as any foreign player and yet never gets slated because it is illegal to diss liverpool………..and all the while you call us arrogant?? why?? for the incontravertable truth that we are simply better than you……we work…we attend…and we pay taxes…you guys smoke weed and sponge off mancunian taxes……you make vile songs about gary nevilles wife and then cry when he celebrates in front of ur fans….you sing munich and then cry when we debate hillsborough……i have no problem with you guys dissing us…christ it makes life interesting…but allow just the mildest retort without the pathetic victim mentality..

  23. You really are a pathetic specimen. The world according to a typical manu fan.
Just sit back and watch the glorious re-emergence of the mighty LFC . As your whiskey soaked manager recently said – these things come in cycles. Once he hangs up his watch strap for the last time your team will spiral away into mediocrity. After all there will be no ferguson around to bully match officials, court favour with the FA or head work weaker minded managers. There will be no more time added on until UTD score either.
    Farewell.

  24. “Rodgers Must Take Charge To Deal With Suarez's Cheating Admission”
He already has done you idiot. That was in yesterday's news. Try keeping up with what's going on instead of spewing your own special brand of random bile.

  25. as much as we are terrified of ur re-emergence into mid table mediocrity from mid table mediocrity…..i would ask you to tell me which one ur “our year” will actually be “ur year”……..as you assess that could you explain gerrards dive against AC Milan and sheff utd blackburn and copious other teams….still as we watch both manchester clubs set records (even the arab funded one) we all will tremble while watching wigan beat you..

  26. Liverpool sit 12 points out of the relegation zone, and 24 behind the leaders. I don't think SAF retiring will help much, you need to catch Everton first and frankly they have a better squad than you.

Anfield is old and needs huge investment, so money for players will be scarce for years to come.

The future is bleak sunshine. Get used to it.

Suarez is one lucky buy in a sea of wasted money, and like Torres he will see thru it and chase wealth and medals. Rodgers is just the new failure, hype and hyperbole. He has won nothing and that's not changing anytime soon.

You've not beaten one single team in the top half of the table all season. That really is pathetic.

Don't envy us leading the table and playing in the Champions League, the break in our history was just that period when people wore flared jeans , and the Beatles were making music. You've as much chance of making a comeback as they do.

  27. Rodgers has NOT dealt with Suarez, he has NOT fined him.

The question is why ? I submit its because Suarez will walk to a team that can use his talent rather than stay where he is surrounded by Championship level players.

  28. @ steve
i guess the question is which big club would take suarez from the mid table club that currently employs him??? united?? nope we have europes greatest strike force (shite midfield yes we have self awareness) man city?? no!!! a side that gets more bad press than a german wearing an hitler t shirt in israel wouldnt want another petulant tosser…chelsea? not while roman wants to sack every good manager in world football for not being able to rescue torres for his inability to recapture his prior form…or arsenal who enjoy scrambling for top 4 as long as its at spurs expense??? sorry suarez looks like you have the home u deserve

  29. Good point, who would take Suarez ?

In England I was thinking he could improve himself by going to a more ambitious Club with a better Stadium and more prospects. So that would be Stoke City for example, or maybe Spurs. Then he could at least get regular European football in the Europa league.

Perhaps he could call Joey Barton for some advice.

  30. Dear Mr LFC for life,

Sorry if I offended you. So now will you give me fries with my burger ?

Stop taking it all so seriously chum.

  31. @ steve
not sure if suarezs far right views would go down well at spurs…………his 6 million was not enough views would alienate him from their fans…..plus his goose stepping ways…it would get ugly…..however stoke would be perfect….suarez dive and pulis sticks the nut on him…….in a sense it would be a great move for suarez he would get european football and a decent modern stadium…….and would learn self awareness and the knowledge that only alex gerrards tongue belongs where the sun doesnt shine….and redemption for leaving a vile club with vile fans……..but hey daniel sturridge says they are the biggest club in the world…….so what do we know??

  32. Steve just to clarify, “decent players” in my book are world class; Liverpool have only one at present and so do MU (Van Persie); neither side has anyone else approaching world class (several such as Gerrard Giggs and Scholes were but no longer, Shrek never quite achieved his unlimited potential and Reina has gone off the boil. As for “one more than before”, I think the way Torres destroyed Vidic at OT in the 1-4 game shows he was truly world class.

As for fergie i listened to Fighting Talk this morning on radio 5; Siralex bans a journalist from carrington at the drop of the hat, one recently for reporting that Rio Ferd was injured when Siralex wanted this kept quiet, he demanded to know who had given him the story, which he said was false, the journo replied i saw him leave training this morning on crutches!! LOL But he was still banned. Which other manager would get away with this type of press censorship? The FA are terrified of him. Suarez was right MU control the press. End Of! Nev the Red

  33. Nev – end of ? You are ironic in demanding an end to discussion, when you're complaining about SAF controlling the media.

First point. Gerrard was never world class, he is far too loose with his passing and has won very little in his career. Suarez is the only top class player in the Liverpool squad.

Contrast with United where we have many top class players which is why we are top of the league.

In case you're unaware, mother way the league works is that when a team wins it gets 3 points, the best teams have the best players and so win more often. I'm sure you haven't seen much of the good teams except when they take points off you but trust me you aren't good.

As for press censorship isn't dealing with Suarez behind closed doors the very same as keeping it secret . If Rio is injured SAF might prefer secrecy as we are in 3 major competitions and it could give an advantage.

Please try and focus on the article, did you have trouble concentrating at school ?
