Where Would Lewandowski Get A Look In At United?

Unsurprisingly Robert Lewandowski starred for Poland in their 1-1 draw with Roy Hodgson’s England yesterday in Warsaw. Not of course that this came as a surprise to football fans across Europe especially those in Poland and in Germany where the talented striker plays his club football.

Despite not scoring, something the Pole has come accustomed to doing quite often over the last couple of years, he led the line well forcing England’s centre-back pairing of Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka to be at their best to try and contain the Borussia Dortmund hitman.

Since rising to stardom under Jurgen Klopp two seasons ago, Lewandowski has attracted many admirers. He has been compared to former United striker Dimitar Berbatov but his performance on Wednesday afternoon showed that comparison isn’t exactly true.

For starters he works far harder off the ball than the so-called lazy Bulgarian. That’s not to say that Berbatov can’t work hard and create space for others, it’s just that’s not his game. It never was when he was at Bayer Leverkusen or Spurs and it won’t be at Fulham.

Lewandowski would undoubtedly offer a top European side (and that’s not to say Dortmund aren’t already one) something different up front. Despite missing a sitter against Manchester City at the Ethiad last month, he is a ruthless finisher who has a very deft touch on the ball which sometimes for a big-man goes un-noticed.

In the air of course he’s very strong and would no doubt be able to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League. At 24 years old he has lots of time on his side and by his goal-record and all-round performances would certainly have a say in which club he joins from the sides that would no doubt want to sign him.

Even before there were rumours that Shinji Kagawa was interesting Manchester Untied, there have been rumours about Lewandowski moving to Old Trafford. However if he were to join the club tomorrow, would he have a starting-place? No!

I am not saying that he isn’t a better player than Danny Welbeck right-now because all-round at the moment he probably is. But Welbeck has a bright future ahead of him and in all honesty he would be the main victim if the Pole joined United. They are similar players and sometimes you don’t need too many eggs in one basket.

Certainly Lewandowski would be a better-fit at Arsenal or Chelsea despite Fernando Torres coming back into form. Despite playing well against City, they have enough strikers and if you sign him he would have to be an automatic starter.

United fans should be focusing on talking about midfielders as that’s where the team are lacking real quality at the moment. Then again who can really blame fans for wanting another 20-goal striker, after all they do bring success.
