Eriksen Needs Time To Shine If He Joins United

Midfield it seems is certainly the area of the pitch where we can all agree that Manchester United need work to improve on. Shinji Kagawa was hauled in from German double winners Borussia Dortmund and young starlet Nick Powell was signed from Crewe.

Both are attacking players with great futures in the game. Sao Paulo’s Lucas Moura is being linked with a move to United too as his Ajax’s talented Danish international Christian Eriksen who has caught the eye in his performances in the Eredivise.

Eriksen certainly has the talent to back-up being wanted by some of Europe’s top clubs. He can control a game well, is good on the ball, has a great range of passing and will only get better by having more games and experience under his belt.

The latest rumours suggest that the Dane wants to know if United are one of two clubs who have allegedly bid for his services and that if they have then he would be open to a move.

The thing is it’s worth remembering that Eriksen doesn’t turn 21 until February. If he were to sign for us, fans mustn’t expect too much of him straight away. He will need time to develop in a new league and will have to adapt his game to the Premier League.

He will not get the time on the ball that he has in Holland and as we have seen from his performances in Euro 2012 for Denmark can fade out of games. However that’s not to say he will do that if he joins, but it’s a reminder that he will – like any new signing to the Premier League – have some dark-times early on to go along with the good ones.

Would Eriksen be a great signing? Yes.

Do United need a player of his quality? Yes.

Do United need a player of his quality over that of a defensive-minded midfielder? Probably not, but if you have the chance to bring a good player to the club, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try and sign them.

Will Eriksen and Moura both be signed? Probably not, it’s likley only one (at best) will join.
