Previewing United’s Games In February

I thought it would be good at the start of each month to give my predictions on the games that Manchester United will have. Here’s how I can see our games in February panning out.

Before that though, here’s a quick look at how I got on last month with my predictions, as you’re see there I got no score spot-on only predicting 2/5 results right.

So who do United play this month, let’s have a look:

5th February – Premier League:  Chelsea @ Stamford Bridge

United begin the month with a tricky fixture away at Chelsea. Despite seemingly in a battle with Spurs for third place in the table, they are a side who cannot be underestimated given their experience and quality in their squad.

Despite winning at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League quarter finals last April, United haven’t tasted victory over Chelsea there in the League since 2002. This will be a tight game, but United should have enough to secure at least a 1-1 draw.

11th February – Premier League: Liverpool @ Old Trafford

With an FA Cup defeat at Anfield fresh in their minds, this is a game that United simply cannot afford to slip up in. Liverpool will go into the game confident, knowing that a draw would put a huge dent in United’s title-chances this season.

Luis Suarez is all set to play for the first time against United after being banned for racially abusing Patrice Evra, United fans will be up for this one and will get their wish of a home win with Wayne Rooney returning to form with a goal.

16th Febuary – Europa League: Ajax @ Amsterdam Arena

At the start of the season you would have expected to have seen these two giants perhaps slug it out in the knock-out rounds of the Champions League. Alas that wasn’t to be and both teams are shockingly in the Europa League.

With this being the first leg, this match will be a cagey affair. Ajax are a dangerous side and United can ill-afford to put in a slack performance. They won’t though and will probably see out a 1-1 draw in the Dutch capital.

23rd Febuary – Europa League: Ajax @ Old Trafford

Thanks to Liverpool knocking United out of the FA Cup, the return game against Ajax at Old Trafford comes off the back of a weekend’s rest. That will not make this game any easier as the Dutch champions have the talent to cause a surprise.

United should have enough to beat Ajax by at least two goals to seal their passage through to face Lokomotiv Moscow or Athletic Bilbao in the next round but if they allow Christian Eriksen to run riot, it may very well be a nervy and tense end to the game.

26th Febuary – Premier League: Norwich City @ Carrow Road

United end the month with arguably their easiest fixture of the month, away to Paul Lambert’s Norwich City who after getting promoted have interestingly enough only lost two home games all season to Arsenal and Spurs.

Lambert’s side are playing an attractive brand of football that is getting them results but they have only kept one clean sheet so far this season and you cannot see United not scoring at least two against them. United to win this 3-0.
