3 Players United Will Have To Be Wary Of – Liverpool

Manchester United of course play Liverpool in the FA Cup away this weekend, with that in mind it’s worth taking a look at these three players who we should be wary of going into the game:

Craig Bellamy

There are not too many forwards who irritate defenders, football fans and at times their own team-mates as much as Bellamy, who has settled in well back at Anfield after re-signing for Liverpool in the summer after finally leaving Manchester City.

Bellamy has made a career out of being a nuisance and has been involved in many bust-up’s down the years. Sadly for him that has taken the gloss out of his playing ability which has been there for all to see since he signed for Newcastle in 2001.

There are few forwards who work as hard as Bellamy and in terms of his talent, despite having a good career, it could be argued he should have achieved more in the game as when on-form he can be a world-class player who can hurt any team around.

Andy Carroll

Big forward Carroll may have had an awful season so far, but Saturday’s match represents a huge opportunity for the out-of-form striker to prove to Kenny Dalglish and everyone else in the country that he hasn’t gone of the boil completely.

After arriving injured during last January’s transfer-window, the powerful forward has struggled and despite initial signs that he would link up well with Luis Suarez, he has looked sluggish and anything but a Championship forward yet alone a Premier League one.

The odds may be against Carroll troubling United this weekend but a good performance from the striker may turn his season around, giving him a chance to get back into Fabio Capello’s England set-up. Don’t laugh at that as funnier things have happened.

Steven Gerrard

What else can be said about Gerrard. Everyone knows that he’s a great player. He’s won everything there is to win bar a Premier League title at club level and he has been a great player for England as well, despite the fact he’s struggled (like so many of the so=called golden generation) at World Cups.

He has proved the difference for Liverpool on seemingly 100’s of occasions and when fit can be backed to score 15-20 goals a season without even breaking sweat. Sadly for him and his club, he has struggled with injuries over the last two seasons and perhaps he is past the peak of his career.

However, any fan of an opposition club would be wrong to ever write of Liverpool’s no.8, as he is still as hungry and motivated as ever to win another trophy for his boyhood club. This weekend will be a test for Gerrard who will likely be making his first start of the season. He’ll be up for it!
