Van Persie Could Be The Missing Link To Our Feared Strike Force

For many years now the one thing I’ve admired most about our team is the attacking firepower that we’ve had. Especially during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign we have seen our team deliver devastating attacking performances that have swept teams aside.

In past United teams of recent time we have seen a squad that posses four quality strikers, all of who were capable of match winners and would deliver. Thinking about this made me look at our current strike force and compare to past ones.

To compare different strikers from our past is hard as everyone has different opinions and all our strikers are never the same as others. Right now I see three quality strikers that most teams would love to have in Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. Welbeck has impressed me with his current form and ability. While he will never be in the same class as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi when called up he comes up with goods, a trait I find some strikers lack.

We have that same trait in Rooney and Hernandez who are also match winners even when not playing at their best. Rooney who was part of the strike force of Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov is without a doubt our best player and has improved every year since he came. With Berbatov it seems since Hernandez’s arrival and cementing a first team place, he’s been on a downward spiral. Every time I see our Bulgarian on the pitch I never think he’s going to score or make any impact.

To make sure we keep our place as the top club in England and regain our European crown, it’s time for Berbatov to move on and with clubs like PSG interested some decent money can still be made off him. What sparked my interest on this was the speculation of the future surrounding Arsenal’s Robin van Persie.

While reports say that he is staying, Arsenal are a sinking ship and Van Persie knows it. The thought of van Persie to become the fourth member of our strike force is a mouth watering prospect for any United fan. Even if van Persie doesn’t leave Arsenal I still believe Berbatov should go as I see strikers out there who are better or have potential world class in them. The other striker that I would love to see at United is the return of Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi, an attacker of real quality who would add something fresh to our attacking line.

I’ve always stood in Berbatov’s corner when other fans have criticised him. However after recent performances I feel someone new should be brought in to replace him. The person I would love for that to be would be van Persie, who could make sure that every other team remembers who to be feared off.

  1. I disagree wit hthe article, unfortunately I just don't see van Persie as a potential signing for us. While arguably the best striker in the league, I just don't think Arsenal would let him go to us, and I don't believe we would have the money either. Ferguson has great trust in Rooney, Hernandez and now Welbeck so I just don't think Ferguson would purchase. Definitely more likely to go to City as well IMO. Not slating the article, good read but I just don't think United would get or particularly need Van Persie.
