Deux Frenchmen Linked To United

Over the years we’ve had a mixture of good/bad French players. Of course our most famous Frenchman has been ‘The King’ Eric Cantona, whilst our worst French import would have to be poor old William Prunier, whose spell at the club lasted only 2 games.

Over the last couple of days we’ve been linked with 2 Frenchmen.

Raphael Varane may not be a name that alot of football fans have heard of before, but the RC Lens defender has already made a big impression in France this season, after only making his debut for the French side back in November.

Every media source from The Sun to the French paper L’Equipe have been linking us (as well as other top European clubs) with signing Varane and with Lens getting relegated at the end of the season, you would have to expect that he’ll leave for pastures new.

Varane shone despite his club’s relegation and even captained the side at home on the final day of the season in a defeat againgst Arles-Avignon, who had already had their relegation from France’s top-flight confirmed weeks ago.

The other Frenchman who we’ve been linked with is Samir Nasri, who has had a terrific season for Arsenal. There’s no doubting Nasri’s quality on the ball and that he has great creative qualities that any team would want in their side.

That being said despite Patrice Evra supposdly talking him up with a move to Old Trafford in L’Equipe as well as the UK’s Metro reporting that Nasri has become frustrated in London due to not winning any trophies, the move would be a huge suprise.

Then again in football you can’t rule out anything can you?
